Barron Williams have been retained to deliver this key search and selection instruction for our client, a world class manufacturer of components and systems for the principal original equipment producers in the worldwide aerospace industry. Based in Lancashire, the business is well established and employs c300 people as part of an international plc of over 5800 employees (& with operations in 12 countries). With a reputation as a long-term partner of choice for some of the world’s leading names in aerospace, the company is regarded by its OEM clients as a proven Tier One supplier offering high quality products and exceptional service levels. The business is well positioned for the future as the global aerospace sector continues to grow.

Key to their continued success is the ability to operate effectively within the sector’s complex supply chains, including establishing and managing high value supplier relationships. As a result, our client is now seeking a first-class Head of Purchasing to play a pivotal role in ensuring that continued success. Reporting directly to a Board Director, you will take responsibility for all Procurement and Purchasing matters, including capital expenditure. You will ensure that appropriate processes and practices are in place for the effective sourcing and ongoing management of suppliers to allow the company to achieve its goals. We are looking for a dedicated, hard-working Procurement professional with a clear track record of success in relevant manufacturing settings (not necessarily Aerospace). You will be able to demonstrate experience of managing complex, multi-layered key supplier relationships that are collaborative and partnership-based. You will also be able to demonstrate your credentials in leading and developing the Procurement function & Purchasing teams in your career to date. Key Deliverables: 

  • Take full responsibility for all Procurement & Purchasing KPI’s & budgets for the business
  • Deliver effective, partnership-led relationships with key suppliers at strategic and operational levels
  • Develop key supplier relationships to further safeguard the business and manage risk pro-actively
  • Leadership – drive Procurement team performance to deliver against strategic & operational objectives
  • People development – deliver critical Procurement capabilities by developing your team
  • As part of the site SLT, work closely with colleagues to achieve overall Business Plan goals
  • Continually review Procurement and Purchasing processes and practices to improve efficiency
  • Build strong and effective relationships with colleagues and suppliers alike

Candidate Profile:

  • A suitably qualified manufacturing Head of Procurement with relevant supplier management experience
  • Strategic and commercial with excellent inter-personal and relationship management skills
  • Excellent leadership credentials, can lead and develop small, specialist purchasing teams
  • Track record of delivery within manufacturing businesses with similar supply chain characteristics
  • Highly credible, able to operate at strategic and operational levels with colleagues & suppliers alike
  • An engaging, determined and impactful senior Procurement professional, looking for their next challenge
