As our HR network contacts will know, we participate in the REC/KPMG Job Market monthly reports and surveys. This gives us, and maybe you, some assurance that our own experiences in the job market aren’t unique.

The final quarter of 2022 was busy for the team here at Barron Williams, and we were working hard on a number of projects in Sales, Operations, IT and Marketing – particularly in the Manufacturing and Service sectors.

The market was certainly challenging – good candidates were available but also in high demand. We had to fight for their attention and then fight to retain it in the face of intense competition.

This meant we needed to keep our process moving fast, particularly in the latter stages when scheduling interviews and faced with clients’ busy diaries.

An added complexity was added to the mix in the form of some unique requirements in the role brief – needing some agility and skill in our search process. But we do like a challenge!

It was extremely satisfying to come back in January with a great list of starting dates for successful candidates, in anticipation of the new year’s seasonal upturn in new search projects.

Highlights for us included securing candidates against determined counter-offers. We wish our new starters every success in their new roles in 2023.

Our anticipated new year recruitment projects have now materialised and we are busy once again with returning customers in particular.

Our plans for 2023 are to continue to serve our customers to the best of our ability. Speed, agility, skill, application – naturally, and as our clients have come to expect.

Improvements? Well, we are looking for more ways to move faster – recruiting well at a pace is always complicated by people and their behaviours. 

We need to persuade, influence, etc to attract and engage with the best candidates, so we will continue to keep working on how best to do that. Feedback is always most welcome, of course.

Life changes when you make the right choice

We anticipate demand to continue to grow as businesses naturally evolve and focus on growth.

Here at Barron Williams Executive Search, we will continue to see challenges from competitors, market disruptors and some macro-economic issues, no doubt, but of course, we must “get on with it”.
