We’ll start with client matters, always a good place to start for any executive search business…

The Client Stuff

In 2022, Barron Williams Executive Search, again, worked with clients we have worked with previously (some on many many occasions), as they returned to us with new instructions.

As we emerged from the impacts of the COVID pandemic, we were delighted to work with some new clients too – attracted mainly through recommendation and referral but also some through the website and SEO – so thank you Google!

Specifically, our manufacturing clients seemed the quickest to return to the market, and we successfully completed assignments across Finance, Sales and Operations in a number of diverse manufacturing market sectors.

Yes, the fact still remains, good candidates are often hard to find. Combined with increased competition for the good ones and tight markets are where we have proven our true worth. And trust us, we have!

We were also delighted to be retained to recruit a Managing Director for a new client in the Services sector. The challenge was to recruit the right person to work with the founders to execute a defined business plan.

It was reassuring to be able to attract an extremely high-calibre response. The advantage is that our client could consider an excellent (and diverse) longlist and shortlist before selecting from 3 “very hireable candidates” as they phrased it.

One thing is certain, the Barron Williams Executive Search team are looking forward to more of the same in 2023.

Barron Williams Executive Search Exec Bank

Our Exec Bank continues to grow with execs and managers from all core disciplines and across a number of sectors.

We can’t promise to have the right opportunity for you, however, it is always good to know that we have you to hand for when the right opportunity arises.

Thank you for trusting us as part of your career planning!

Barron Williams Executive Search Social Media

Again, thank you for following us and a warm Barron Williams welcome to those who followed us on LinkedIn in 2022.

Our LinkedIn followers are up by over 50% from last year and our aim for 2023 is to try and keep the quality of content high and relevant.

Executive Search Market Trends

With a return to more normal trading conditions, we’ve seen significant competition for good candidates.

It has been widely reported that the best candidates are very much in demand, so “time-to-hire” is critical.

As a result, we have adapted our selection process to make sure that we retain the best for the longest.

That’s not without its challenges. High-volume responses still require careful consideration. We read every CV. And we actively encouraged candidate enquiries.

Bottom line is that we want to attract people from the whole of the market. We just now need to do that quickly and efficiently.

Once we have our initial, provisional longlist, we’re on the phone quickly, then on Teams, and then on to the “business end” of our process.

Running a first-class attraction/search and selection process at pace is not for the faint-hearted. Fortunately for you, team Barron Williams is bleedin’ good at it!

Our Market Predictions for 2023

Judging by recent conversations we’ve held with clients, 2023 is shaping up to be another busy year.

Despite the current difficulties and gloomy forecasts for the economy, growth appears to be firmly on the agenda and we are no exception.

In terms of our top tips for candidates and clients for 2023:

  • For clients
It is very much a case of don’t hesitate. If you need to hire, move swiftly. Select your recruitment partner and give them all the info they need to find the right people. But most importantly, give them your diary. When they want you to meet candidates, be available.
  • For candidates
Two things. First, stop applying for roles that you can do. Only apply for roles that the client wants you to do. If you can’t mark yourself at least 8/10 against the role brief, you’re not what they want (and you won’t get the role), so don’t apply. Second, if you are an 8/10 or better, then please follow up. Get in touch with the recruiter, ideally before you apply in our opinion.

Watch out for some interesting guest blog posts in 2023 too. We’ve lined up some fascinating individuals from our network to share their expertise on a number of relevant subject areas. These are people that are definitely worth listening to. Watch this space!
